Description
- We're a group of skate instructors and event organizers dedicated to getting inline and roller
skaters into skating outdoors, for skating the parking lots, park spaces, trails and quiet
streets in the metropolitan DC area. We teach at several DC locations.
- We offer three programs:
- A free Learn to Skate Clinic, covering the basics of skating, offering
the fundamental skills and tools you need to skate safely outdoors and become a confident parking
lot skater.
- A "pay what you want" Learn to Trail and Street Skate series, covering
effective stopping, speed control, hill management, navigating rough + urban terrain, plus
coexisting safely around cyclists, joggers, scooters, the occasional car and other skaters.
- A Skate Fitness program, to help you develop your skills, strength and endurance
to take on longer and more complicated skate routes, offered on a drop in basis as a monthly
subscription.
- You can become part of our community and help strengthen it by joining the
Event Committee or becoming an Assistant Skate Instructor.
Doing so will enable you to participate in the Skate Fitness program for free.
- Our focus here is on group events, aimed primarily for adults (and young adults). For private lesssons
and kids programs, check out www.SkateInstruction.com.
Learn to Skate Clinic

This is the place to start!
- We operate a free "Learn to Skate" clinic as a service to the community to
promote safe skating and make skating more fun.
- The clinic covers the proper use of safety equipment, basic skating skills
and how to use a heel brake or toe stop for stopping. It's great for new skaters
and anyone returning to the sport.
- The clinic is held in Northwest Washington, DC, in Petworth and Rock Creek Park.
- Helmets, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads are required. Sessions follow COVID19
safety guidelines.

Learn to Trail and Street Skate

- A monthly "pay what you want" four week series of sessions designed to get you comfortable on the
numerous trails and quiet streets in the metropolitan DC area.
- Here's the general schedule:
- Week 1: Maneuvering & Turning Skills
- for handling outdoor skating around turns, obstacles and other people
- Week 2: Stopping Skills
- various speed reduction and stopping techniques to stay comfortable with your speed
- Week 3: Hill Skills
- techniques for taking on larger hills
- Week 4: Trail/Street Skills
- techinques for navigating various features found on local trails
- Each session is a stand alone class and you can join in at any time.

Skate Fitness

Try out a wide variety of skate activities to become a better skater.
- Develop your skills, strength and endurance to take on longer and more
complicated skate routes.
- Try out new skill practice techniques to get more confident skating
outdoors.

Event Committee

Meet more skaters in the community while organizing fun skating things to do.
- Help plan and organize skate fitness program events, and develop the skills to plan events on your own.
- Help man our booths to promote our program at street fairs like Celebrate Petworth or Petworth Porchfest.
- Help organize special events like Rink Night at the Salvation Army.
Participate in the Skate Fitness program for free as a benefit for volunteering.

Assistant Skate Instructor Training

Bring more skaters into the community while joining a skate instructor apprenticeship program.
- Help run the learn to skate clinic by organizing a safe teaching space, checking skaters in, and helping with their gear.
- Teach basic skating skills under the supervision of a certified skate instructor.
- Get training for how to teach skating skills and run a group classroom for skaters.
- We teach both inline and roller skaters and you can teach on whichever skates you prefer.
